The heartwood is a light to medium brown, commonly with an olive cast, though there can be a fair amount of variation in colour. Nearly white to light brown sapwood is not always obviously demarcated from the heartwood. Quarter sawn sections display prominently attractive ray fleck patterns. Where burr occurs the wood can be widely distorted with swirls, included bark and a wide variation of colour.
